Intercollegiate Book Review Competition

Library & Information Centre organized an Intercollegiate Book Review Competition, on 25th February 2023. The competition was judged by Dr. Madhura Kalamkar (Principal, HVPS Law College, Ramniranjan Jhunjhunwala College Premises) and Dr. Jitendra Aherkar (Principal, B. L. Amlani College of Commerce and Economics). Students from various colleges in Mumbai participated in this event. The 1st Prize winner was bagged by Mr. Aniket Sharma (J.M.P College of Commerce, Goregaon), 1st Runner up was Ms. Namrata Sakhare (CTES College of Architecture, Chembur), 2nd Runner up, Ms. Sushmita Sharma (J.M.P College Of Commerce, Goregaon) and two consolation prizes were also awarded 1st Consolation prize was given to Ms. Anam Choudhary (S. M. Shetty College, Powai) and 2nd Ms. Riya Tare (KES' Shri. Jayantilal H. Patel Law College, Kandivali) they were selected on the basis of said criteria, the participants were awarded with certificates and cash prize.

Best Library User Award

To promote maximum and proper utilization of library facilities and services, the Library gives away “Best Library User Award” to the students every year who make the maximum use of the library resources and facilities. Two students are selected for the Best Library user award on the basis of the following evaluative criteria; selected students were awarded with certificate and cash prize on college annual day on 21st January 2023.

Following criterion will be considered for the “Best Library User Award”

  • Regular use of books, like issue/return of books.

  • Reading aptitude of the student.

  • Utilization of library resources.

  • Observation of library norms and discipline.

Book Exhibition

Chandrabhan Sharma College Library organized a Book Exhibition on 07th January, 2023 in Library, Book exhibition plays a huge role in encouraging reading habit among people of all age groups, books have their own fragrance and to appreciate it, so we need to read the books.

The publishers & distributors who participated in the book exhibition were Taxmann Publications, Himalaya Publishing House and Neha Books; the books displayed were on various subject areas such as Management Studies, Banking & Insurance, Accounting & Finance, Information Technology, Mass Media, Fiction, Non-fiction, Biography and Competitive books etc. Our teachers, students & staff enjoyed the exhibition. They also bought many books personally. 

The book exhibition programme was well appreciated by both the staff and students. At the end of day, our teachers, students & staff had benefited from this exhibition. Hence the event turned out to be a grand success.

 N-LIST: E-resources User Awareness Programme

Chandrabhan Sharma College, IQAC Cell & Library and Information Centre organized One Day Webinar on N-List: E-resources User Awareness Programme to all the students through GoogleMeet Platform on 15th October, 2022 (Saturday) from 11.00am to 12.30pm. This programme was conducted by Mr. Sunil Ubale, LibrarianChandrabhan Sharma College and Mr. Snehal Sambhar Asst. Librarian, Chandrabhan Sharma College, Powai, Mumbai.

The session started by giving homage to our former President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam on his Birth Anniversary who loved reading and writing on the occasion of Vachan Prerna Diwas. And the webinar started with introduction of what is N-List, its functions and features, showed N-List web-page how its look like, and the top 10 college users flashing on N-list web-page. Students were taught how to register and how to login, discussed with them how to access this database and e-resources i.e, e-books and e-journals available in this database.

Saraswati Devi Puja

Saraswati devi puja was organized in our college library, on the occasion of Navratri (Ashtami). This year Ashtami was on the 3rd October, so puja was organized on that day, puja started in the afternoon at 12 noon. All the teaching and non teaching staff and students were invited for this puja. Lord Saraswati is the goddess of intelligence, knowledge, education, harmony, art, and speech. During Navratri it is a tradition to worship Goddess Saraswati worshiping of goddess Saraswati is done on the day during ashtami which comes within the ten days of Navratri. Thus we worship Saraswati Devi earlier initiating any good work. 

Principal of our college Dr. Pratima Singh inaugurated the event and worshiped goddess Saraswati. While principal madam was doing Saraswati puja, everyone present at the event stood up and started singing Saraswati vandana. After the puja all the staff were given sweets as a prasad.

Library Orientation Program

Library Orientation was organized for First Year Students in the library itself to make them aware about the information resources and facilities available and to make them understand how to access needed information effectively and efficiently. This orientation program was conducted from  02nd August to 06th August, 2022 for different classes according to their roll no, date and timing. All these details were shared with students in the form of notice circulated in their classrooms during lectures and around 250 students attended this orientation programme.(in different batches)

Guest Lecture on Importance of Reading Habits

Library and Information Centre of Chandrabhan Sharma College organized Guest lecture on Importance of Reading Habits on 6th July, 2022 on the occasion of National Reading Day.  The speaker for the lecture Ms.Tejaswini Pathwardan (Founder and Director of OPEN MINDS Productions), she started her session with why reading is important because it develops your mind and gives you excessive knowledge and lessons of life. It helps you understand the world around you better. It keeps your mind active and enhances your creative ability. Reading improves your vocabulary and develops your communication skills. Ma’am has also explained about what are the reading skills, like why do we read, what to read, how to develop reading habits and also shared various examples from day to day life and connected it to reading habits.

The session was very interactive. It helped students to build a positive attitude towards reading and motivated them to.
